Our Interpreter Services

American Sign Language

At Beyond The Barriers LLC, we understand that many American Sign Language (ASL) services are provided through video interpreting, where qualified interpreters work remotely via live video and audio feeds to communicate with Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals. However, for clients who may not have reliable internet access or a computer, we also offer telephone interpreting services. This option ensures effective communication in situations where on-site interpreters are unavailable, helping to bridge the gap and provide accessible support to all.

On-Site

At Beyond The Barriers LLC, our on-site interpreters utilize consecutive interpreting—a method where the interpreter conveys the speaker’s message after they have finished speaking. During this process, interpreters take detailed notes to accurately capture and relay key information, ensuring clear and effective communication. At Beyond The Barriers LLC, we understand that many American Sign Language (ASL) services are provided through video interpreting, where qualified interpreters work remotely via live video and audio feeds to communicate with Deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals. Recognizing Interpreter Fatigue & The Importance of Using Multiple Interpreters

Interpreter Fatigue refers to the decline in an interpreter’s performance that typically occurs after about 30 minutes of continuous work (Moser-Mercer, Künzli, & Korac, 1998). To ensure continued accuracy and effectiveness, it is best practice to rotate interpreters during assignments. The referenced study observed that even seasoned interpreters—those with 12 to 25 years of experience—exhibited a noticeable drop in performance over time. While they often push through fatigue, they tend to omit information in order to maintain their pace. For this reason, we always recommend scheduling interpreters in shifts to deliver the highest quality interpretation services possible. Why you need Interpreter Services

Interpreter Services: Delivering Your Message Clearly in the Language Your Audience Understands

Communication plays a vital role in our everyday lives. Whether in business, government, or other sectors, delivering clear and accurate messages is crucial for sharing information, issuing directives, and resolving conflicts when needed.

In an increasingly globalized world, you’ll encounter individuals from diverse cultures and linguistic backgrounds. Bridging these language gaps requires skilled language professionals.

Interpreting involves accurately conveying messages between languages and cultures without altering their meaning. While this may seem straightforward, it’s a challenging task that demands both speed and precision.

  • To interpret effectively, a professional must have:
  • Deep understanding of the cultures involved
  • Fluency in the target language
  • Extensive vocabulary in both languages
  • Subject-matter expertise
  • Strong note-taking abilities
  • Quick comprehension skills

Thorough preparation and knowledge of the topic being interpreted are essential. An interpreter who is well-versed in the subject matter can provide accurate, context-aware, and culturally appropriate interpretations.

Language Interpretation: Live (Simultaneous) and Step-by-Step (Consecutive) Services

When seeking interpreters, it’s important to specify the type of service required. The main difference between interpretation and translation lies in the medium: interpreting involves spoken language, while translation deals with written text.

For oral interpreting, there are two main types: simultaneous and consecutive.

  • Simultaneous Interpreting – This type occurs when an interpreter listens to the speaker through headphones and conveys the message in real-time via a microphone, allowing the audience to hear the interpretation immediately. It’s commonly used in conferences and high-level meetings.
  • Consecutive Interpreting – In this type, the interpreter waits for the speaker to pause before converting the message. This method requires strong note-taking skills to ensure accuracy and completeness in the interpretation.

Focus Interpreting offers a team of experts for both types. Our simultaneous interpreters have a minimum of 2–3 years of experience in the booth, ensuring efficiency for conferences and events. Our consecutive interpreters are also highly skilled, excelling in high-pressure situations to provide seamless transitions for your clients.
